Map the invoice lifecycle before connecting systems

An invoicing integration typically connects a business system’s invoice data to an external authority service, then records the response and any assigned reference in the source system. Plan the full lifecycle: customer and item data, tax classification, invoice validation, submission, response handling, corrections, and reconciliation.

Start by confirming the current technical specifications, eligibility, onboarding steps, authentication requirements, and test process from the relevant authority’s official documentation. Requirements can change and may differ by taxpayer or transaction type; this overview is technical planning information, not tax or legal advice.

Build for retries, traceability, and review

Use a stable internal invoice identifier and an idempotent submission design so a timeout does not accidentally create duplicate records. Store request and response references securely, distinguish rejected from pending transactions, and make retry behavior visible to authorized staff. Keep credentials out of source code and restrict access to operational logs.

Test valid invoices, missing data, rejected payloads, slow responses, network interruptions, and correction workflows in the approved test environment. Reconcile submitted invoices with the accounting ledger and retain a clear audit trail. Before production use, have qualified tax and finance staff confirm that configuration matches current obligations.
